Thheere's Confffetti In M y Keybrrd...

Happy day-before-my-birthday to me!!

I had a meeting this morning and am leaving in a minute for a 6-hour offsite meeting...ick. But it's the day before my birthday! Why, boss, why must you send me to meetings?

The funny thing is, while I was driving in this morning I somehow convinced myself that my morning meeting was going to be a big surprise party. No, stop laughing, I really had justified it to myself. I'm the one in the office that sends out birthday emails, buys the cakes, etc. So I thought, hey! They're going to do a big whing-ding in my honor! When I got to work I grabbed a pen and paper (you know, have to play along!), wiped the ridiculous smile off my face (have to act surprised!), and walked into the conference room. Ok, it sure looks like a meeting. Still, maybe it's all part of the surprise.

Half an hour into the meeting, I began to realize, maybe it's not so much about me.

But I can't complain, by any means. A few of the girls decorated my cubicle, and it's the greatest thing. There are streamers and banners literally from the ceiling to the floor, down the walls and across the opening. You have to climb through streamers to get inside. (My boss took one look and said, "What the hell...?") Plus there are balloons all over the desk and floor, and they even splashed out on helium balloons! And the mylar ones that last forever! There are flowers (which are making me sneeze, to be honest), candy and Hawaiian leis. They decorated my calendar, my files, my phone, my radio...everything! And they brought in what looks like a pound of metallic confetti, and dumped it all over everything. There's now confetti tracked throughout our department.

Plus there are cartoons of fat little opera women and fey little Shakespearean actors. It's cracking me up.

So it's been a very fun day-before-my-birthday so far!

Offsite meeting now...

---------------
ADDENDUM

Ok, now that meeting was a surprise party!

I packed up a bunch of files and notes and things that I'd need for the meeting, and drove with a coworker who knew where the "office building" was. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a surprise party at a restaurant! I should have been tipped off by the fact that no one had been griping about an offsite meeting on a Friday afternoon.

It was a lot of fun and I'm stuffed right now! Jeff gave me a box of chocolates from my FAVORITE chocolate store (Ron gave me a box from there for Valentine's Day), and I'm planning on taking those babies home and savoring them. I got a FedEx from Patty in Ohio...she sent me a Wright brothers stuffed bear. It's very cute, all dressed up for a flight. And Bob promised me a ride on his Harley. Yeah!

And, in a wonderful turn of events, I can go home early! So I'm headed out of here soon and perhaps meeting up with Lisa for some mall shopping. (She had tried to convince me to call in sick today; shame, shame!)

I'd like to see "The Notebook," so maybe I'll do that this evening. I'm also thinking that ice skating sounds pretty good.

But definitely, no studying! I'm burned out on that and, hello, it's my birthday. Well, the day before my birthday, anyway.

Boy, they did a great job surprising you for your birthday! But you deserve it.

I think the Wright bear needs to go for a Stearman flight... what do you say??

Happy birthday!
