I didn't realize it had been quite so long since I'd updated here...this summer has been flying by! Tons of shows, tons of studying, and a new Disney annual pass means I'm out and about constantly.
Sheesh...I'm not even sure where to start, there's been so much going on. I'll break it out by category. 'Cause, you know, you care enough to follow this through to the bitter end.
I'm nearly ready to take my state appraiser exam! Well, I could use another couple of months studying to be really ready, but I'm going to give it go and see how I do. I perhaps shouldn't be so flippant about a very expensive state exam...? I'm just so darn SICK of studying for it! It makes my head spin to look back at the pages and pages and pages of mathematics I've done in my practice tests. I don't even like math. What was I thinking??
On the plus side, I'm ever so knowledgeable about hollow-core doors and concrete foundations now. When I talk to people about their appraisals, I sound quite well-informed, even if I'm sort of faking some of it.
I do know that fraud is bad. The government frowns on that.
At any rate, when I haven't been studying, I've been spending a lot of time at shows. I saw "A Little Night Music" at LA Opera, "The Producers" at OCPAC, the Opera Pacific concert in June, the Great American Concert (A Night with Walt Disney) at the Hollywood Bowl, the Chancel Choir's Bach concert, and the Pageant of the Masters. I didn't do anything at all at the Pageant this year, and it's really odd to have the summer completely free. It was also really odd to see the show and not have been a part of it in any way...it's the first summer in 14 years I didn't do anything, even substitute, in it.
It was nice to have the summer off, but I have a feeling I'll audition again next year.
I also saw Turandot at the Hollywood Bowl. But that's another story for another time.
(I'll bake a cake for you if you can tell me which book that's from.)
And tomorrow night I'm going to the Tony Bennett concert at the Greek!!! I can't wait!!!
I finally finished re-doing my bathroom! Finally! Well, except for the baseboards. I'm having some issues with the baseboards.
Drat those baseboards.
Cosette celebrated her 9th birthday (and no, I didn't have a party for her). She seemed singularly unimpressed with the whole idea of birthdays.
I've been going through books like a fiend...for a while there I was reading a couple books a week. I'll post some reviews, including one for one of the best books I've ever read. But that's another story for another time. (Got the reference yet?)
When I have a free evening I've been heading down to Disneyland with my annual pass...it was a great purchase! I haven't been there much during the day because it's just too hot for me right now, but it's great at night. I've met up with a friend, had dinner, watched Fantasmic or the parade, hung out for the fireworks, and been home by 10:00. Cheap and entertaining. (Well, relatively cheap, anyway.)
So that's what I've been up to, more or less. With the Orange County Fair, the Sawdust Festival, the church picnic, a bunch of ice skating, and some nice dinners with friends thrown in.
Oh, and...helloooo...Fred's departure!! How could I possibly have forgotten that?? The planning for that took up most of my July. So that's DEFINITELY another story for another time.
